Value-added products

The FP7 project ARISE (http://www.arise-project.eu) proposes to design a new infrastructure that integrates different station networks in order to provide a new ā€œ3Dā€ image of the atmosphere from the ground to the mesosphere with unprecedented spatio-temporal resolution.

Three existing networks are involved providing information on atmospheric processes in its different layers.

Monitoring extreme events

Monitoring Extreme Events (Infrasound)

A manyfold of natural and anthropogenic phenomena can be registered by infrasound measurements. In this section, the infrasound signatures of a variety of events such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, avalanches, thunderstorms, meteorite entries and industrial explosions are discussed.

Atmosphere Dynamics

Gravity Wave Potential Energy

Gravity waves are typically small scale buoyancy oscillations generated by flow over orography or convection. However, many parameters of the gravity wave parameterizations and particularly gravity wave source parameters are uncertain due to a lack of longterm high-resolution observations. This leads to enormous uncertainties in long-term-climte simlations. By providing these measurement data, ARISE contributes to reducing the lack of observations and further supports the extraction
and estimation of gravity wave sources.


Daily Planetary Wave Activity

This Advanced Data Product is a contribution of the NDMC Network for the ARISE database of advanced Planetary Wave (PW) parameters (WP3). The present dataset describes the PW-Activity for the measurement period from 1st July 2012 to 30th June 2013 on a daily basis. The PW-parameters are based on significant wavelet intensities of GRIPS 12 (Ground-based Infrared P-branch Spectrometer) nocturnal mean temperatures derived from OH-Airglow measurements at the station Observatory of Haute-Provence (OHP, 43.93 N / 5.71 E). Note: No PW-parameter values are given until 2014-02-17 due to possible edge effects of the applied wavelet analysis.
